Terms of Service
Effective date: October 7, 2026
These terms are a plain-English agreement between you and Alterna Development Studio. They cover two things: this website, alternadevstudio.com, and Alterna Account, the sign-in service we run at login.alternadevstudio.com. By using either one you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use them.
1. Who we are
Alterna Development Studio ("Alterna", "we", "us") is a software studio in San Antonio, Texas. You can reach us at info@alternadevstudio.com.
2. What these terms cover
- The studio website. The pages at alternadevstudio.com: information about our work, our projects and how to contact us. The site has no user accounts, takes no payments and publishes nothing you submit. The contact page shows our email address; use it to reach us.
- Alterna Account. A single sign-in identity that lets you sign in to applications we build, starting with You-Thon at app.you-thon.com. When you sign in to one of those applications, Alterna Account verifies who you are and passes your name, email address and profile picture to the application.
Each application that uses Alterna Account has its own terms and privacy notice on top of these. For You-Thon they are at https://app.you-thon.com/terms and https://app.you-thon.com/privacy. Where an application's terms say more about that application (for example fees, refunds or content you post there), the application's terms govern that application. These terms govern your Alterna Account itself.
3. Your Alterna Account
Who may create one. You must be at least 13 years old to create an Alterna Account, or older if the law where you live or an application's terms require it. If you create an account for someone else, such as an organization, you confirm you are allowed to bind them to these terms.
How accounts are created. You create an Alterna Account by signing up inside an application that uses it, with an email address and password or by signing in with a supported identity provider such as Google. When you sign in with one of those providers, we receive only your name, email address and profile picture from them, and your use of the provider stays subject to the provider's own terms.
Keeping it secure. You are responsible for everything done with your Alterna Account. Keep your password private, use a strong one, and turn on two-factor authentication if it is offered. Tell us at info@alternadevstudio.com right away if you think someone else has used your account.
Accurate details. Give us accurate information and keep it current, in particular an email address you control: we use it to verify your account, reset your password and contact you about your account.
One person, one account. Do not create accounts by automated means, sell or transfer an account, or sign in as anyone other than yourself.
4. Acceptable use
Do not use the website or Alterna Account to:
- break any law, or help anyone else break one;
- impersonate a person or an organization, or misrepresent who you are;
- gain, or try to gain, access to an account, system or data that is not yours;
- probe, scan, overload, disrupt or interfere with the website, the sign-in service or the applications that use it;
- bypass authentication, rate limits or other security measures;
- harvest email addresses or other information about other users;
- send spam or malicious content through any feature we provide.
Applications that use Alterna Account have their own rules for what you may post or do there.
5. Suspension and termination
By you. You can stop using the website at any time. To close your Alterna Account, email info@alternadevstudio.com from the account's email address and we will delete it. Closing your Alterna Account removes your sign-in; what each application keeps or deletes of its own records is described in that application's privacy notice.
By us. We may suspend or close your Alterna Account, or restrict your access to the website, if we reasonably believe you have broken these terms or an application's terms, if the law requires it, or if an account is used to harm others or the service. Where we can, we will tell you at your account email address and explain why.
Ending the service. We may change or discontinue Alterna Account or any application that uses it. If we discontinue Alterna Account, we will give reasonable notice at your account email address where we can.
Sections 6 through 8 survive the closing of an account.
6. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The services are provided "as is." We work to keep the website and Alterna Account available and secure, but we do not promise that they will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of harmful components, or that they will meet your needs. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
Limit on our liability. The website and Alterna Account are free to use. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ALTERNA DEVELOPMENT STUDIO AND ITS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES AND CONTRACTORS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE WEBSITE OR ALTERNA ACCOUNT. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE WEBSITE OR ALTERNA ACCOUNT WILL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS (US$100).
Some places do not allow some of these limits, so some may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Third-party services. Sign-in providers such as Google, and the applications that use Alterna Account, are run under their own terms. We are not responsible for them except as these terms say.
7. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that cannot be settled informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Bexar County, Texas, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. Before filing anything, please email us at info@alternadevstudio.com: most problems can be fixed faster that way.
8. Privacy
How we handle your information, including what we receive from Google and other sign-in providers and how to ask for deletion, is described in our Privacy Policy.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. For changes that materially affect Alterna Account holders, we will also email the address on your account before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the website or your Alterna Account after a change means you accept the updated terms.
10. General
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any application-specific terms, are the whole agreement between you and us about the website and Alterna Account. If part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term right away, we can still enforce it later. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours to a successor of the business.
